General Director of Prospecting Policies and Climate Change, Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER)
Sol Ortiz has been the General Director of Policies, Prospecting and Climate Change within the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, since 2018. Among other responsibilities, she currently coordinates the development of the National Soil Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture in Mexico, is Executive Secretary of the Sectoral Committee of Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and is a national focal point before the World Soil Alliance, she was recently elected President of the Soil Alliance of Latin America and the Caribbean (LACS).
Sol graduated as a Biologist from the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and has a PhD in Ecology from the Institute of Ecology also at UNAM. She has worked in the Public Sector since 2001, first at the National Institute of Ecology as Coordinator of the Biosafety Program, then from 2007 to 2018 she worked for the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) in the Executive Secretariat of the Intersecretarial Commission that deals with issues related to the safe use of biotechnology.
