Steering Committee, Senior Staff, and Secretariat members of the North American Agricultural Advisory Network (NAAAN) met in-person and virtually for the bi-annual Steering Committee Meeting in Denver, Colorado this May. Chancellor Tony Frank of the CSU System opened the meeting by reminding leadership that, “The reason we all came together was to help feed the people in our portion of the world, and that no matter (what happens) there are going to be people that still need that help. There are going to be people that are still hungry. There are still different climate issues that are out there influencing and affecting agriculture. There are going to be any number of threats that are going to be met through human creativity and cooperation, through the dissemination of information, and all of us working together.”
As the NAAAN welcomes new leadership to its Steering Committee and as Canada, Mexico, and the United States prepare for elections in the coming year, this charge serves as a reminder of the NAAAN’s continued priority areas.
The NAAAN welcomed Jill Bramble, President and CEO of National 4-H Council as its newest Steering Committee member. Additionally, the NAAAN celebrated the contributions of Cathie Woteki, former Steering Committee member for the U.S., and Wallace Ip, Steering Committee member for Canada, as they retire and move to a new post respectively.

The leadership team reviewed and discussed the 2023-2025 Workplan, including the potential of initiating a NAAAN extension exchange, cross-border education opportunities, and private sector case studies to better understand private extension services across the NAAAN’s member countries.
In the immediate term, the country teams are activating Country Hub convenings in the coming months. The Canada hub will focus on defining what extension is in Canada as well as an objective framework to allow for ongoing progress measurement. In Mexico, the country hub will prioritize three areas of work including an extension framework, the future of extension, and the role of science and innovation. Additionally, the United States hub will focus on dialogue across the United States and cross-border information sharing.
